Test Loading Facility

Client: JCB

Robinsons Longcliffe Ltd were awarded the turnkey contract for the design and installation of a new 30-metre-high loading tower at JCB’s site, intended for testing their prototype telehandler machinery. The project required a complex structure capable of withstanding significant weights, with the lower level designed to support loads of up to 10,000kg and the upper level designed for 3,000kg.

The loading tower was also required to comply with strict guarding regulations, ensuring safety throughout its operation. An integral part of the design was the inclusion of an internal stairwell, providing access to the top level for operational staff.

This project was undertaken in full compliance with CDM (Construction Design and Management) Regulations, ensuring that all health and safety standards were met throughout the design and construction phases.

All works were executed under CE marking Execution Class 2, ensuring that the highest standards of quality and safety were maintained. The civil engineering work was a key component of the project, with Robinsons Longcliffe Ltd managing all aspects of the foundations. The foundations themselves measured over 35 metres in length and 20 metres in width, requiring the installation of 270 cubic metres of concrete and the use of over 40 tonnes of structural steel.

This turnkey solution, encompassing both design and construction, was completed to meet JCB’s high standards of quality, safety, and compliance.
