Robinsons Longcliffe Ltd were commissioned by Breedon Aggregates to undertake a full turnkey contract for the removal, relocation, and reinstallation of a 135-tonne Bailey bridge spanning the River Great Ouse. Robinsons managed the entire project, including full CDM (Construction Design and Management) compliance, ensuring all health, safety, and regulatory requirements were met throughout the process.

The project involved several key stages, beginning with the safe removal of the bridge from its original location, followed by the erection of new foundations at a different point along the river, and the precise reinstallation of the bridge. The bridge, which measured approximately 44 metres in length, 10 metres in width, and 3.5 metres in height, required specialist lifting equipment. Robinsons sourced and managed the crane contractors, selecting one of the UK’s largest cranes, the Liebherr LG1550, to safely lift the structure from its original position.

Once the bridge was removed, it was carefully dismantled in sections, transported to the new location, and reassembled. Robinsons Longcliffe Ltd also sourced and managed the piling contractors for the installation of new piled concrete foundations at the new location, ensuring that the bridge was securely reinstalled onto these foundations.

Throughout the entire process, Robinsons Longcliffe Ltd managed all aspects of the project, including design, health and safety, engineering, and project delivery. The team ensured that all operations were conducted in compliance with CDM regulations and that the project was completed to the highest standards of safety and quality.

This full turnkey solution successfully delivered the bridge relocation with minimal disruption, adhering to the client’s requirements and meeting all technical and safety standards.

Robinsons Longcliffe Ltd were awarded the turnkey contract for the design and installation of a new 30-metre-high loading tower at JCB’s site, intended for testing their prototype telehandler machinery. The project required a complex structure capable of withstanding significant weights, with the lower level designed to support loads of up to 10,000kg and the upper level designed for 3,000kg.

The loading tower was also required to comply with strict guarding regulations, ensuring safety throughout its operation. An integral part of the design was the inclusion of an internal stairwell, providing access to the top level for operational staff.

This project was undertaken in full compliance with CDM (Construction Design and Management) Regulations, ensuring that all health and safety standards were met throughout the design and construction phases.

All works were executed under CE marking Execution Class 2, ensuring that the highest standards of quality and safety were maintained. The civil engineering work was a key component of the project, with Robinsons Longcliffe Ltd managing all aspects of the foundations. The foundations themselves measured over 35 metres in length and 20 metres in width, requiring the installation of 270 cubic metres of concrete and the use of over 40 tonnes of structural steel.

This turnkey solution, encompassing both design and construction, was completed to meet JCB’s high standards of quality, safety, and compliance.
